Getting a computer setup just the way you like it can be a long and difficult process. If you have kids, share a computer or are a sysadmin, then keeping that computer nice and functioning is an even longer and more difficult process. That's why I recommend the free program Steady State, made by Microsoft. It has great features like program access limitations (great it you have a "PeeCee-Wiz" friend), Internet time restrictions(great if you employ social network addicts) , Windows restrictions (this covers the registry, control panel, task manager and the install/ uninstall of programs), drive access restrictions and tons more!
One very handy feature is disk protection. When this feature is enabled, Windows creates a large cache file to store all the changes you or anyone else is making to the system, which it dumps at restart, or whenever you tell it to. This will completely reset the computer to it's saved state.
This is a great free program and is very worth having. If you are interested in learning more then you should see >Lifehacker's screenshot tour< of the program, or you can download it from the >Microsoft Download Center<.
